Part 1-meaning very first lesson!

Boys 1st B-day at the Beach (a year ago as post was written).
Swim lessons with twins? Is that even possible?
Yes but you need two people obviously. We decided to go with British Swim School, which is swim lessons in our area, in the United States.
The first lesson, was challenging. Here’s why:
The twins are 2! But they also like familiarity and Swim lesson was a whole lot of new.
~New Place (and not even the place it was suppose to be held at….)
~New Faces & Stranger Danger
~New Ask (they haven’t been to an inside pool in a year-since last summer)
~New Saturday Routine
~The Water was Chilly
The boys did have previous experiences in the water before swim lessons at the beach. If you didn’t know, we live at the beach (not on the beach) but 20 minutes away to 3+ different beaches in our area!
After their second birthday, the boys wanted to try floating in the ocean water and became obsessed with it. I had asked my parents to put up a pool gate because yes they have a pool, which is awesome and also part of a worry with two determined boys that don’t know how to swim. Not to mention we have a smaller above ground pool ourselves.

So here we are, Swim lessons!
I thought I read somewhere, please arrive ten minutes early on the pool deck. So as an avid rule follower that is exactly what we did. And that was the beginning of a full blown MELTDOWN.
Sky flopped, head butted, arched his back and flailed not wanting to be in the pool deck area. Screams were echoing through the whole pool area. I was sweating bullets, but mainly trying to keep him safe and from hitting his head on the floor. Too many unfamiliar people. Those ten minutes felt like an eternity. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but also knew we would learn some tips and tricks to help Survive Swim Lessons with 2 year old toddler twins!
Somehow we got in the water and somehow we did the lessons. The waiting was the worst part. Sky was still on edge and unsure in the water and so was Jace.
But we did it and the boys liked the songs and the instructor which is impressive considering their stranger danger of most men.

We had some take aways.
- The ten minute before rule does not apply to toddlers or twins. No rule followers needed 😉
- The boys enter the pool area right before noon when it’s time for their lesson and to get in the water.
- We keep the boys in the stroller until time to go to the lesson and get right in the pool because they are more comfortable and relaxed in there and less likely to get frustrated and meltdown and flop on the floor.
We hope the next swim lesson goes better with these adjustments and also that next week will be more familiar for them!
Stay Tuned for the Next Swim Lesson Update 🙂
